From tavern to treasury, the third project Windover completed for the Institution for Savings involved the adaptive reuse of a historic building into a modern banking facility. Dating back to 1809, the original structure required a comprehensive gut renovation and structural reinforcement. The building was painstakingly raised from its original, crumbling foundation to allow a new foundation to be rebuilt in its place.

Our team gave careful attention to preserving architectural elements from the original structure to be integrated into the finishes of the new banking facility. Salvaged timbers were used as part of the new cathedral ceiling design and reclaimed bricks from the same early 1800’s period were sourced and used to recreate a fireplace. Custom wood paneling and millwork adorn the bank’s interior making it a warm and inviting space to frequent, harkening back to its days as the town’s gathering space and tavern. With a drive-through and an ATM parlor in addition to other modern banking amenities, the structure has been completely revitalized and brought into 21st century standards while retaining the character of its past.
